I Ching Hexagrams 57 & 18: Wisdom for Navigating Change

A very rare thing happened in the last couple of weeks, which is that I got two precisely identical I Ching readings, barely a week apart: 57, The Gentle, with the fifth line changing into 18, Work on What Has Been Spoiled. One came in a private client session the day after the US election, and one a week later in my weekly evening zoom satsang.
I’ve been a practitioner of the I Ching for 45 years—yikes!—and I don’t remember ever getting identical readings, but certainly never in a one year period of time, never mind one week. I also got each one of those hexagrams individually in a third and fourth reading in the same month, so I guess these messages really wanted to come in! It felt like they were wise counsel, reflecting on some of the major social and cultural challenges ahead.
In case it might be of any value to you as we navigate the time ahead, I’m sharing here my read through of, and reflections on, that reading from my recent Wednesday zoom session. It gets a bit into the weeds, but if you’re like me, you might find it pretty interesting…
Onward 🙏🏼
